Khoemacau mine boosts independece celebrations

Khoemacau Copper Mining Company donated P45 000 to nine villages in the North West and Ghanzi districts as part of BOT50 Independence celebrations billed for September 30.
The nine villages found in the vicinity of the copper mining area include D’kar, Sehithwa, Kareng, Toteng, Komana, Bothatogo, Bodibeng, Somelo, and Kuke, each of which was given a P5 000 cheque.
Khoemacau operaions manager, Mr Mompati Babusi said his company wanted to assist the communities within which they operate.
Mr Babusi said their aim was to leave a lasting legacy of improved and sustainable development opportunities where they operated.
He said Khoemacau played an integral part in contributing to the different communities as the mine has become part of them, adding that their success depended on their contribution to Botswana.
He said they were committed to making a positive difference in the communities they serve, adding that last year, Khoemacau assisted Somelo village with a water supply system; the company has also contributed to the Presidential housing appeal.
When welcoming those present, Kgosi Tiyo Kandapaera of Toteng appreciated other traditional leaders who attended the donation event saying it would be a good year for Toteng.
He said the donation would aid them in celebrating the golden jubilee.
In his closing remarks, Kgosi April Montshosi applauded Khoemacau Copper Mining Company to continue with the spirit of giving, adding that since they bought the mining zone from Boseto Mine, they had shown commitment to working with them. ENDS
