ESP progressing well in Kgatleng

20 Sep 2016

The Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in Kgatleng has been reported to be progressing well and contractors are working within time schedulest.
When addressing Kgatleng District Full Council session on September 19, Council chairperson Mr Mpho Morolong said the construction of Education facilities at Segale primary school commenced late May 2016 and was expected to be completed by April 2017.
He said upon completion the project would  realise 13 classrooms, three toilet blocks and eight staff housing units.
Mr Morolong further said all three contractors were working within schedule and were moving at a satisfactory pace.
The chairperson said he was glad that since it began, the project had given a high number of Batswana an opportunity to make a living, not only for contractors engaged but also the workforce employed.
Mr Morolong added that it was good for contractors under ESP to heed government’s call as of the programme’s objectives of employment creation for Batswana.
In other issues concerning maintenance of council facilities, the chairperson said there were a number of facilities that required maintenance within the district, however due to shortage of funding maintenance of such facilities would still remain a challenge.
He gave an example of the cancellation of major maintenance tenders that were initially budgeted for this financial year 2016/17 following budget cuts on maintenance votes.
Mr Morolong said there were two tenders running, one for maintenance of five staff houses at Kgafela primary school and the other for maintenance of a classroom block at Boitekanelo primary school in Malotwane.ENDS
