Statistics Botswana to release publication
19 Sep 2016
Deputy statistician general, Mr Dabilani Buthali says Statistics Botswana will release a special publication on selected statistical indicators from independence to date.
Speaking at the statistics awareness day on the occasion to celebrate Botswana’s 50th anniversary, Mr Buthali said the main objective of the publication was to enable statistics stakeholders to appreciate performance levels across different sectors of the economy from 1966 to 2016.
He said users were aware of the importance of statistics for evidence based decision making, policy formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation of programmes.
“Provision of this information is important as it enables users of statistics to assess performance of the economy over the 50-year period since independence,” he said.
He further said in celebrating Botswana’s 50th anniversary and the role that statistics dplayed and continued to play in the development of the country, the awareness day was the third after their participation during the 50 days countdown activities in August.
Thus, he urged Statistics Botswana staff to participate and raise their visibility even more.
“Let me also point out that we are getting ready to partake in the Bot50 Independence Day Float,” he said. ENDS
