In the spirit of celebrating Botswana’s 50^th anniversary and taking part in the pillar of “a proud and united nation,” the youth led Love Revelation Society is organising a beauty pageant with the aim of uniting the community of Jwaneng.

In an interview, the society spokesperson, Matthew Mmelesi said the pageant dubbed “Miss Body Of Christ,” aimed at uniting the churches in Jwaneng to work together to build a responsible and morally upright community because churches were stakeholders in the development of a society.

He said the pageant also aimed at promoting good morals among the youth as currently alcohol and substance abuse was rampant among the youth.

“We want to see the churches united and being at the forefront of developments in the community. We also want to be in a good standing to build the youth who are currently faced with a lot of challenges like alcohol and substance abuse. We also wish to show the youth that there are safer ways of having fun than alcohol which can easily destroy their future,” he pointed out.

On preparations, Mmelesi said they have secured a venue for the event that is scheduled for the first week of October.

He also said while registration was ongoing, the response was good as they already have 11 ladies who would be taking part as contestants.

He was quick to say everyone who wishes to take part as a contestant was welcome regardless of their religion or beliefs.

“The pageant is open to everyone who is interested in taking part, one doesn’t need to be affiliated to a certain church to take part because the aim is to groom future leaders,” he explained.

Mmelesi said sponsorships were coming at a snails pace, but that they were hopeful that private businesses in the township would show their support in writing as they have shown interest in the pageant.

He also said part of the money that the pageant would make would be used to better the lives of the street children living in Jwaneng.

He explained that it was the first step by the society and the pageant in building a better community for a bright future. The pageant spokesperson also appealed for community support for the event to be successful. ENDS
