BOT50 euphoria hits Kanye
19 Sep 2016
Southern District coordinator of the Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture (MYSC), Phinias Kgare says the country's golden jubilee gives the nation an opportunity to reflect on progress and map a feasible route on the future.
Kgare said this during BOT50 activation exercises and road shows geared to create the hype for the golden jubilee in Molapowabojang and Kanye recently.
He said the intention of the road shows was to activate and motivate the public that independence celebrations were just around the corner.
Through the road shows, Kgare said they expect to reach various audiences more especially the youth.
Kgare said they invited traditional folklore musician, Ditiro Leero to entertain the crowd.
He also commended President, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for encouraging Batswana to wear Botswana colours, so as to hype the days leading to the celebrations.
Kanye Administrative Authority BOT50 publicity member, Keith Keti said the event was orchestrated by MYSC and Kanye BOT50 local organising committee to create the ambiance and hype for the country's golden jubilee.
Keti said the response of the public had indicated that people were responding well to BOT50 activities and were ready for the country's 50th anniversary.
He said the branding on the streets and prime spots as well as entry points of Kanye and extension villages has got enough colour to sensitise people about BOT50 activities.
He said several billboards, zebra statue, miniature and standard flags were seen in the streets of Kanye, which give the village and its extension areas a new face lift. The BOT50 steering commissioner in Kanye, Bontle Tannor said they found it necessary to reach out to the youth through road shows as they were more effective. She added that through the shows they had an opportunity to spell out their plan of activities to the public.
She said they publicise BOT50 activities across all media platforms in the country to sensitise the public.
She said from September 25-30 there would be various activities to mark the celebrations. On September 25 there would be a combined religious service at Kanye main kgotla 8am to be followed by wheelchair race 11am at Montshiwa grounds.
She said gospel music festival would be at Seepapitso Senior Secondary School on the same day at 6pm. Tannor said on September 26 the main kgotla would host culture day or Legwetla Festival. At Matsaakgang grounds there will be song, comedy, poetry and dance for schools on September 27. There will be an independence eve and cultural night comprising of fireworks to usher in the golden jubilee at show grounds.
She said the independence celebrations would be at the main kgotla. ENDS
