Doctors Aid Medical Aid Scheme donated medical cards to students with disabilities and the most vulnerable at Limkokwing University on Wednesday.
Giving welcome remarks, associate director of international development, Mr Philisani Amos said they recognise the importance of medical aid as an institution.
He said Doctor’s Aid Medical Aid Scheme has been a partner assisting students with medical cover as well as providing health informations during student’s orientation and events.
“We believe in education that breaks down outdated mindset to arrive at the 21st century, and we also believe in education that encourages students to be self-sufficient. This medical aid contribution to our special institution falls within our mission and for that we thank you doctors for your contribution,” said Mr Amos.
He also appreciated Doctors Aid Medical Aid Scheme for sponsoring 20 students with 100 per cent medical aid coverage.
For his part, the assistant managing director of Doctors Aid Medical Aid Scheme, Mr Kenneth Mmolaatshephe said the medical aid scheme was established by doctors and that it has its own clinic called Doctors Care Centres and that they have agreements with other doctors to see their clients across the country.
He said Doctor Aid Medical Aid Scheme would cover the students for four years of their studies, and that it offers students free consultation, medication, dentistry, psychiatric and counselling services.
Mr Mmolaatshephe said about P96 000 would be used to cover the students’ medical expenses and encouraged students to do health screening so that doctors could be able to know their medical history.
He also said they had been working with Limkokwing University for many years and intend evaluating the students’ number on a yearly basis.
Mr Mmolaatshephe said their main focus was to diagnose diseases at an early stage to avoid situations whereby students get hospitalised while they could have been treated at an early stage. ENDS
