Montshiwa lauds government

15 Sep 2016

Kgosi Kebapatile Montshiwa of Lehututu has applauded government for programmes such as poverty eradication and Youth development Fund (YDF) saying they are tailor made to enhance the livelihood of Batswana.

Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by Presidential Inspectorate Task Team this week, he hailed the poverty eradication programme for playing an active role in transforming lives of the less priviledged Batswana.

Since the introduction of some government programmes, he said there had been a transformation in the lives of residents of Lehututu who benefited from the programmes.

He added that some people who benefited in the area had graduated from poverty and now living dignified lives.

“I’m more grateful that most of youth in Lehututu continue to utilise government programmes to uplift their lives,” he said.

He said the programmes had created jobs as entrepreneurs who benefited from YDF employ other young Batswana.

He implored those who were blessed with wealth to remember the unfortunate ones, saying the residents should create job opportunities through government programmes.

He said beneficiaries should demonstrate the ability, passion and commitment to undertake the projects.

He added that some beneficiaries lack enthusiasm and experience in their projects, which should  be prerequisites for funding.

He however, raised concern over lack of proper monitoring by relevant public officers.

He said it was vital that beneficiaries of various government programmes and implementing officers work collectively and cooperatively to ensure the success of the initiatives.

For his part, a representative of the team, Mr Peter Siele said the mission of touring the beneficiaries’ projects was to get primary information pertaining to challenges they encounter.

He said the challenges faced by beneficiaries need the input of all stakeholders. ENDS
