Mokoka Sebina headman of records
14 Sep 2016
Kgosi Shathani Mokoka has been appointed headman of records for Sebina following end of contract of Kgosi Bonyongo Masalila last year.
Presenting Kgosi Mokoka to the Sebina residents on Tuesday (September 12) , Kgosi Alphonse Nsala of Tutume said the appointment came after consultation with Bangwato tribal authority.
Kgosi Nsala said the appointment was done in June, but to delays in other procedures, it took long for the new leader to be presented to them.
As per Bogosi Act, he said Kgosi Mokoka would be on contract and governed by the laws set for dikgosi.
He nonetheless emphasised that although there would be differences with some believing that they should not be led by someone from outside their village, that should not alter their unity.
Developments in villages, he said, were often distorted by internal differences and they should guard against such.
Sharing his views on appointment of the new leader, Mr Balangani Nthume said Bangwato tribal authority should iron out differences that were often visible on their choices for village leadership.
Another resident, Mr Phillip Makoba, said he welcomed their new leader, adding that it had been long that the post for headman of records had been vacant.
He noted that the vacancy led to the backlog of cases and therefore called on their kgosi to speed up delivery.
He was however of the view that kgosi should guard against encroaching in politics.
Mr Mbinganyi Pabalinga said Sebina should be given the powers to nominate one of their own instead of imposing someone on them.
This, he said wasagainst what Bogosi Act of 2008.
For his part, Kgosi Mokoka said they should work together to take their village to the next stage.
He stated that he was not going to be a man of his own rather he would be open to them so that together they could develop the village. ENDS
