Goya roots for corporate social responsibility

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraela Goya, has pleaded with former students and stakeholders to give back to communities.
Speaking during a donation ceremony at Shanganani Junior Secondary School in Tsamaya recently, Mr Goya appreciated the donated educational material and BOT50 T-shirts.
Mr Goya said the material would go a long way in promoting a culture of reading in schools and also empower students to become active participants in the learning process.
Assistant mnister said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, was happy that Compass Truth identified them as a worthy beneficiary of its corporate social responsibility.
He said it was a count of their blessings because it could had been anybody else.
Mr Goya said government, having inherited few developments from Britain, had to start from scratch, but had made significant progress in areas of education, medical care and roads infrastructure.
Mr Goya said regarding education, they were able to make education and training free and accessible to all eligible learners, rich and the less-privileged.
He said they took a lot of pride in achieving the Millennium Development Goals of access to universal primary education.
The Shanganani deputy school head, Ms Felicitus Makula saidthe school was an 18 stream one with 55 teachers, 16 non-teaching staff, 628 students among them 320 boarders.
Ms Makula said most of the students were in the custody of their parents, adding that they had incidences of indiscipline, involving drugs and substances sold to students by some parents.
She said it was crucial for boarding students to be accorded entertainment in the form of sound system, because she believed the absence of such contributed to indiscipline.

or his part, Child Welfare and Protection chairperson, Mr Power Kuswani pleaded with the government to introduce a discipline committee in schools to assist teachers as they were not executing their duties fully due to undisciplined student’s behaviour. ENDS
