Crime decrease in Southern District
14 Sep 2016
Southern District council chairperson, Mr Mephato Reatile says with the exception of robbery and attempted cases, the district has recorded a decrease in crime levels.
Mr Reatile said on Monday (September 12) during the ongoing council session. He said prevalence of cases has been reduced due to contributions made by members of the community.
“Burglary and theft reduced by 27 cases from 43 in the April to June in 2015 period to 16 the same period this year,” he said adding that house breaking and theft has also reduced by 19 cases from 40 to 21 in the same period.
He further told the council that whereas robbery and attempts increased by four cases from eight to 12 cases, theft of motor vehicle, murder and attempts as well as stock theft remained the same at 14 and 53 cases respectively.
It is upon this background that Mr Reatile pleaded with fellow councillors to help in the fight against crime and encourage electorates to do the same.
On road accidents, the council reported an increase of the number of incidents by 56 from 147 to 203 between April and June 2015.
He said however that road traffic enforcements to stem the tide have been intensified. ENDS
