Vision 2036 ready

14 Sep 2016

The Vision 2036 presidential task team has presented a draft report to Ntlo Ya Dikgosi.

In his opening remarks at  the House, the Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, said no one would temper with the contents of the report.

“Nothing will be changed in this document as it reflects the aspirations of Batswana. As government and all the relevant stakeholders, our duty now will only be to ensure that we act accordingly to address Batswana’s aspirations as captured in the document,” he said.

Mr Molale said Vision 2036 task team had started executing its mandate on development of the new long term vision for Botswana, which would serve as the platform for national development post 2016,

The team that was officially appointed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on October 19, 2015, consists of 34 members chosen based on their; knowledge, experience, expertise and desire to contribute to the country’s development.

Presenting the report, the task team chairperson, Mr Neo Moroka, said his team was mandated to mobilise Batswana to define their long term social, environmental and economic development aspirations.

Therefore, he said the draft document reflected consensus that emerged from consultations with Batswana.

On November 9, 2015, Mr Moroka said his team presented itself to Ntlo Ya Dikgosi members to inform them about what President Khama had tasked them to do and to request for their assistance in mobilising Batswana for consultations, before executing its mandate.

For that reason, he said they found it necessary to present the draft document to Ntlo ya Dikgosi and share with them what the aspirations of Batswana were as per the draft document.

He expressed gratitude and thanked Ntlo ya Dikgosi members for assisting his team in mobilising Batswana. He also thanked Batswana for their cooperation.

Through Dikgosi’s assistance and Batswana’s cooperation, he said his team was able to execute its task efficiently.

In his vote of thanks, Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Puso Gaborone, commended the team for having found it necessary to present the draft document to Ntlo ya Dikgosi, saying the presentation was an eye opener and had enlightened them on what to expect from Vision 2036 final document.

The draft document was completed on May 2016 and endorsed by the National Assembly during its sitting on July/August 2016.

It will be officially launched later this month when the current vision comes to an end. ENDS
