Minister hails Swaneng class of 96

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya, has praised Swaneng Hill School class of 96 for retracing their steps by giving back to their former school.
Speaking at a prize giving ceremony organised by class of 96 on Friday (September 9), Mr Goya stated that their reciprocation gesture was motivated by the desire to propel the school to greater heights.
“This is a noble initiative that clearly sets apart the class of 1996 from its peers,” he stated.
Through interactions with schools, he said realisation that schools which forged strategic partnerships with stakeholders performed better than school operating in isolation.
Mr Goya said the support they received through adopt a school initiative was encouraging and surpassing expectations.
“This should motivate the remaining schools to consider working closely with the stakeholders,” he said.
He cited drug and substance abuse as the most disturbing issue in schools thereby contributing to the rising levels of students’ indiscipline.
He attributed the latter to the decline of performance in public school; however, he was hopeful that through this kind of collaboration, excellence would be restored.
Mr Goya who held that education made a difference between the poor and the rich, encouraged students saying,“Take education seriously so that you are not poor tomorrow and our country does not become poor.” The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse,also praised the class of 96,saying they have sacrificed their selflessness and accentuated the Public-Private-Partnership objective of ploughing back to the community.
Mr Autlwetse who is an Area MP for the region that Swaneng School falls stated that “Let this gesture provoke the Swaneng Alumni from its slumber; usher in a resuscitated spirit of adopting this historic institution.”
For his part, chairperson of class of 96 of Swaneng, Mr Moagisi Mogalakwe advised student to keep the economic needs in mind when studying.
He told students that hard work and passion are ingredients of success.
