Cleanliness vital for good health

12 Sep 2016

A clean environment is very important as it shows that one cares about their surroundings and also have love for their country by keeping it tidy, says the speaker of the National Assembly Ms Gladys Kokorwe.

When giving remarks during community service day at Old Naledi kgotla recently, Ms Kokorwe said keeping the surroundings clean was very important as it promotes good health.

She said as part of the community, employees of the National Assembly have made it their responsibility to promote cleanliness by donating dust bins and painting the kgotla.

She further noted that Old Naledi was the oldest location in Gaborone as it was the first residing place for most civil servants back in the days when Gaborone became the capital city of Botswana.

Ms Florah Beregane, a resident of Old Naledi who also works as a gardener at the National Assembly said she was happy to be part of the team making a difference in the community.

“Cleaning this place will leave it tidy as the countdown towards 50 years of independence approaches,” she said.

Another employee who works as a Librarian, Ms Pearl Lowani said as civil servants they wanted to show that they care about Old Naledi as it is one of the places that other civil servants resided at during the days when Gaborone was still undeveloped.

They also painted the kgotla in addition to general cleaning of the surroundings with emphasis that cleanliness is important for good health. ENDS
