Culture is the foundation of a strong family and society, Balete paramount chief, Kgosi Mosadi has said.

Addressing Barwa Kgodumo Cultural day, Arts and Music Festival attendees on Saturday (September 10), Kgosi Mosadi said a weak family led to a weak society and leadership.

Therefore, she said there was a need to build strong families. She also noted that since government took the momentum to encourage tribes to revive their culture, her focus had been to promote a strong society through culture.She said the national policy on culture encouraged tribes to revive and promote their cultures for their socio-economic wellbeing.

Kgosi Mosadi said a strong family would produce well behaved society members hence the need to address issues of societal discipline

She explained that culture defined the way people lived and she was optimistic that culture would bring oneness, love, respect and better livelihoods.

 Kgosi Mosadi noted that culture brings people together and further emphasised the need to embrace the theme of the Bot50 celebrations of a united and proud nation.

Therefore she opined that the BOT50 sign board should have been placed at the village kgotla to ensure that people who attended kgotla meetings did not miss the message of a proud and united nation.For her part, Botswana Tourism Organisation representative, Keitumetse Setlang stressed the need to promote and revive culture.

She said culture is crystal for unity adding that if the family set up was United, the community too will be United.

Setlang said a tribe which promotes its culture lured other tribes and nation to start developing interest in that culture and she gave example of events such as Dithubaruba cultural festival which pulls crowd from around the country.She said visiting people will need services such as accommodation and other tourism supporting services which can benefit community.

Therefore she said there was need for all community members to take part in organising and preparing for cultural events in their areas. Mongwaketse refused media allegations that both Miss Botswana and Miss World procedure were flouted during the adjudication of the pageant. ENDS
