Molale roots for empowerment of coordination structures

11 Sep 2016

Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale has implored Good Hope Sub-district leadership to empower coordination structures that drive development programmes.
He said while village development committees (VDCs) and village extension teams (VETs) were key to the delivery of programmes at village level, they needed to be guided and coordinated by diligent district coordination structures such as District Development Committee (DDC) and District Extension Team (DET).
Mr Molale, who was officiating at the sub-district’s leadership workshop in Good Hope on Thursday (September 8), said DDC and DET were the key drivers of government development programmes at grassroots levels and their effectiveness was critical.
The minister said it was necessary for these structures to be operational, adding that they should meet regularly, report and drive home the common goal of quality service delivery to the nation.
He urged them to abide by the district planning handbook and other related government policy guidelines to deliver on their mandate.
He said it was imperative that from time to time the district development coordinators meet to re-capacitate the structures and address issues that impeded smooth running of the committees.
On other issues, he stated that the public service was regarded as the most excellent in the world and through that, he called on public officers to continue serving the nation selflessly and with pride to maintain the sovereignty of the country, that it prides itself with.
He challenged public officers to abide by the Public Service Act and Public Service Charter coupled with the country’s constitution laws as they would intensify their audacity to augment their role in the development of the district and the country at large.
Minister Molale said they should display good conduct that would allow them to perform their duties diligently and efficiently to promote good customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, he appealed to officers to remain apolitical and focus on their mandated duties by promoting government programmes.
The workshop allowed participants to explore functions of the DDC structures and familiarise members with their roles for them to perform their duties accordingly.
The aim was to also capacitate DDC to deliver on their mandate as well as to strengthen the capacity of DET to be able to coordinate extension services as well as to enhance good reporting by district committees. ENDS
