Tournament rules must be followed - Ramoroka

11 Sep 2016

Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) Kgopotso Ramoroka says rules set out in the Constituency Tournament must be followed to the letter.

Responding to complaints raised by youth during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama in Serowe on Thursday (September 8), Ramoroka said no rules would be trampled upon willy-nilly. The youth complained that their teams were disqualified from taking part in a tournament that was slated for the weekend.

Trampling upon the rules would set a bad precedence for the future. Also he enouraged them to submit their team information as required by MYSC offices to necessitate quick payments upon completion of the cycle.

On Youth Development Fund, the DPS said MYSC had addressed the challenge of delays.

He promised that the ministry would shorten the time taken for the assessment of applications.

Unlike in the past, he said MYSC provided feedback on declined applications for the youth to rectify their mistakes for future. As such, Ramoroka informed the youth that they could appeal if they felt aggrieved by their applications being turned down. He said they provided orientation to youth who want to benefit from YDF, something which continues being offered even during the application stage.

At the same meeting, coordinator of People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) at the Office of President,  Thomas Motingwa advised PLWDs who could, to enlist for Ipelegeng, saying they would not rotate until they were funded under the poverty eradication programme.

He said his office could not afford to pay the P300 disability allowance to all the 60 000 people living with disabilities.

He said the budget for the initiative was P20 million for 5 000 people. He was responding to queries on who was eligible to benefit from the P300 disability allowance. ENDS
