Stakeholders participation key in education

School administrators have been implored to create a conducive environment that will enable stakeholders’ participation for the good of school performances.
Speaking at a prize giving ceremony at Nata Senior Secondary School on Friday (September 9), publishing director for Diamond Educational Publishers, Ms Violet Ng’ong’ola said for education to be improved, a number of factors had to be involved.
Among them, she said, were the availability of trained and qualified teaching staff, availability of good quality teaching and learning materials, as well as facilities.
For such things to be achieved there was need for a joint effort by stakeholders and the government, through the ministry of Education and Skills Development, is also part of the stakeholders, she said.
“The nation needs to understand this fact so that it does away with the perception that education is the sole responsibility of the ministry,” Ms Ng’ong’ola pleaded.
He said parents, students and teachers were also stakeholders because every action taken involved them; hence they should be active and corporative in order to create a conducive environment that will attract other stakeholders to come on board.
The publisher further said, despite the fact that students as the major beneficiaries of education, too had a responsibility instead of believing that someone else has the responsibility for their education.
She cautioned students against acts of vandalising school facilities because they badly need them to be taught in.
“Vandalising facilities is quite a setback in education because, instead of the government investing in education, funds are diverted to repair and maintenance costs; let us sensitise our students to see the importance of structures built for them,” she appealed.
Botswana Housing Corporation marketing and research manager Mr Mookodi Seisa said education was the backbone of the country’s economy because it ensured the development of human resource.
Mr Seisa explained that the school was an institution of learning as well as of shaping character; hence everyone in the school environment has a role to play. ENDS
