Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development will be able to complete the long awaited Radisele treatment plant by September, says the assistant minister Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen.

The project started in May 2013 and was expected to be complete by May 2014 but 37 months elapsed without the completion of the project.

Mr Van Der Westhuizen said in an interview after the project tour that his ministry had engaged another contractor to complete the project.

The ministry terminated their contract with the contractor N&M Services in 2015 due to failure by the contractor to deliver the project on time, poor performance and lack of progress as well as deserting the project.

The ministry, in collaboration with Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, appointed Yuan Lai Water Treatment Solutions in April to complete the works.

At the time of termination of contract, the project was 96 per cent complete, therefore the new contractor was expected to complete the remaining four per cent of work by September.

The aim of the project was to provide water of safe quality to the communities of Radisele, Mogome, Mokgware and Tewane.

“We are positive that we will be able to complete the project as expected,” he said.
The treatment plant would be commissioned this month.

For his part, the area councilor Mr Lesedi Phuthego expressed his happiness with local government ministry for engaging another contractor to finish the project.
He said the project will address acute shortage of water in the villages of Radisele, Mogome and Mokgware.

He said poverty eradication projects were suffering due to water shortage therefore the project will go a long way to improve the lives of people in those three villages.

He said residents of the three villages will be able to bring developments in their respective villages once the problem of water shortage is addressed.
The project was expected to be delivered to the tune of P40.8million. Ends
