Seretse lauds CAACC
05 Sep 2016
Director General for Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC), Ms Rose Seretse has hailed the Commonwealth Africa Anti-Corruption Centre (CAACC) for capacity building on anti-corruption practitioners.
Officiating at the beginning of a training programme on leadership and management in Gaborone, Monday, she said with the training, it is envisaged that through the programme participants will create a regional network for sharing best practices, information and providing mutual support.
“Those who engage in corruption do not sleep.
They spend sleepless nights devising strategies of how they can beat the system, hence it is upon us as anti-corruption practitioners to keep up the pace,” she said.
Ms Seretse further implored participants to lead by example by instilling high ethical and moral values to fellow citizens, adding that it would be embarrassing to have an anti-corruption officer who is also found in acts of unethical behaviour and conduct.
Commonwealth secretariat governance and anti-corruption advisor, Dr Roger Koranteng said the CAACC has three objectives that are to improve anti-corruption agencies capacity and capability to combat and prevent corruption, strengthen collaboration of regional anti-corruption agencies and to commission research and policy papers.
He said the centre’s capacity building programmes are based on the professional action learning model that consists of training interventions which require participants to demonstrate the application of skills and knowledge required through evidence-based feedback, reports or team level outputs.
To ensure the maximum impact, Dr Koranteng said the programmes are designed to systematically address capacity constraints at all levels within the anti-corruption agencies.
The workshop that is the second phase since the first one that commenced in 2015 is attended by 21 participants from 10 countries.
The workshop is meant to make follow ups with participants on how they were applying at work, what they have learnt previously. ENDS
