Kgotlafela calls on Batswana to pray for independence day

BOT50 coordinator, Charity Kgotlafela, has urged Batswana to fast and pray for success of Botswana’s 50th independence day celebrations.
Kgotlafela told a press conference recently that fasting and praying for the country’s golden jubilee celebrations would benefit Batswana both spiritually and physically. “Fasting and praying has cleansing benefits and the country would definitely emerge spiritually lifted and healed from social ills,” she said.
She said it was a blessing that Botswana was celebrating 50 years and thus Batswana should thank God for such a milestone.
She also urged Batswana to channel positive energy towards preparations and ensure momentous 50th celebrations.
Kgotlafela encouraged Batswana to wear the blue, black and white colours throughout the month.
“This does not mean that we should wear national colours at once, but one colour would do.
You can put on black or white or blue, but the blue colour must be predominant. Again, one can also throw in a little of blue in the form of a scarf or tie,” she explained.
She added that RB1 and RB2, as well as private radio stations, were also encouraged to play Botswana music through out the month.
“Playing local music goes a long way in creating a legacy that Botswana has talent that could be able to sustain the radio industry and it would go hand in hand with encouraging artists to continue the good work,” she added.
Furthermore, Kgotlafela noted that September 1 also signified the unveiling of BOT50 billboards in the 33 district across the country.
“These billboards are branded with BOT50 and are mounted at dikgotla where celebrations as well as prayers in various districts will be held.”
As part of activities on independence day, Radio Botswana would be expected to play old time music to ruminate on Botswana’s past.
On one hand, the elderly would be expected to put on olden day attire, which would include bell bottoms, hipsters and hair wigs, among others and dance the day away. ENDS
