The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) on Friday awarded President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama an excellence award in recognition of his dedication, good leadership and commitment to help in resuscitating the party’s structures as per his Mmadinare congress promise last year.

In an interview on the side-lines of the party’s Kweneng regional meeting in Letlhakeng on Friday, the party’s secretary general, Mr Botsao Ntuane said that at the Mmadinare congress last year, President Khama made a commitment to assist as much as he could to help resuscitate the party’s structures despite his already tight schedule as the head of state.

“Ever since then, he has led many party activities in all the regions across the country, which includes among others retreats, special congresses as well as checking on the committees and branches. So this award marks the 50^th party activities led by His Excellency since July last year,” he said.

Mr Ntuane said the award was therefore a token of appreciation by the BDP members for the President’s commitment, and urged the members to emulate him and volunteer more to party activities.

Mr Ntuane said the meeting was also the second leg by President Khama to go across the country on party activities, and said more activities were expected to follow. The meeting was also graced by Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi. ENDS
