The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) commander, Lt Gen. Gaolathe Galebotswe retires from active military service today.

He would officially relinquish command in a change of command ceremony at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks.

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama will then usher in the new commander, Lt Gen. Placid Segokgo.

A press release from the BDF directorate of protocol and public affairs states that the change of command ceremony is in honour of the retiring commander and marks the assuming of command by new commander.

Meanwhile, the release states that BDF has been a key player in the realisation and protection of the national ideals and aspirations as espoused in its strategic foundations.

“Therefore, it is important that those who have served and are entrusted with the command of BDF are honoured in a historic ceremony befitting their status and service”, it says. ENDS
