Magistrate pushes for action in explosives case

Kanye Magistrate, Mr Bosele Busang on Tuesday implored prosecution to expedite its investigations to ensure a matter in which a 30 year-old-man of Block 10 in Gaborone is dealt with as soon as possible.
The accused, Lawrence Dintle is alleged to have on the August 28, 2016 in Kanye broken and entered into AGRIVET shop with intent to steal.
The accused who appeared before Magistrate Busang is charged on two counts of; shop breaking and unlawful possession of explosives contrary to sections 302 and 85 respectively of the penal code of Botswana.
State prosecutor in the matter, Sergeant Motsumi Phorie had pleaded with the court to remand the accused in custody pending police investigation on the matter.
“We have also sent the suspected explosives to the laboratory for further analysis and also strongly fear the accused person may hinder with further investigations in the matter if given bail,” he pleaded.
Attempt by the accused to beg for the mercy of the court and be granted bail on the basis that he was not going to tamper with police investigations did not bear fruit. Magistrate Busang thus ruled the accused be remanded in custody pending further investigations and set September 13 as the next date of mention. ENDS
