Non payment of rental affects council
30 Aug 2016
Palapye Sub-land board chairperson Mr Pius Nkau has urged councillors to inform their communities to pay lease rentals.
Addressing councillors during Palapye Sub-council meeting, Mr Nkau said revenue collection had proven to be a big challenge mainly because of reluctance by plot owners to pay their lease rentals.
He said people allocated business plots were expected to pay annual lease rentals.
He said this quarter, Palapye Sub-land board managed to collect a total of over P262 000 against the target of P4 million while Maunatlala Sub-land board collected over P29 000 against the targeted P2 million.
He said this figure was very low and hampered some of the activities of the sub-land board.
He pleaded with councillors to educate their electorates on the importance of paying lease rentals.
He said revenue collection was important as it led to improved service delivery hence improved customer satisfaction.
He said this would also help Ministry of Lands and Housing to attain its vision of “Sustainable Human Settlements,” adding that the revenue would also help service land to enable people to develop their plots.
On other issues, councillors were implored to warn their respective communities of fraudsters in land dealings.
He said these unscrupulous people called members of the public with the intention to cheat them.
He said the fraudsters claimed to be officials of the land board who were willing to assist the clients in speeding up land allocations, extension period for development agreement and purchasing of repossessed plots.
He said the fraudsters usually demanded certain fees to be deposited into their accounts in order to assist the client. ENDS
