Mosetse pensioners in early independence celebration
30 Aug 2016
Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta has called on Batswana to honour pensioners for the contribution they made to make Botswana what it is today.
Mr Polson Majaga made the plea at a pre-independence party arranged for the old age pensioners of Mosetse by one of the villagers, Mr Marks Setaelo on Saturday.
Mr Majaga said Batswana were known to be people with botho, tolerance and love for one another from generations to generations.
And these were the principles that Batswana families had been built on.
He, therefore, noted that it was important for these factors to be considered by the young generation hence at this time when Botswana celebrated its 50th anniversary the elders should form part of the celebrations.
He siad they had played a meaningful role in outlining the fundamental principles for the young to continue with the legacy of maintaining the peace and harmony Batswana enjoyed over the years.
Mr Majaga further added that celebrating them would be an inspiration to the young people and other nations as they would be able to share their thoughts and ideas which could be of use in today’s world where there are many things which influence people’s wellbeing.
For his part, Kgosi Opelo Ntshwarelang of Mosetse was also of the view that the elders need to be celebrated for their tireless efforts of developing Botswana from the beginning when there was absolutely nothing at all.
Kgosi Ntswarelang further said that senior citizens of this country have had significant role at the time when the spirit of sharing was still highly practiced where those with capabilities would give those unfortunate without being urged to do so. And the spirit helped develop the country at an alarming rate.
The event was graced by 127 pensioners and Mr Majaga through the Majaga Foundation donated blankets to them as they feasted from the traditional food that was prepared for them. ENDS
