SAA refurbishes pupils desks

Following a community service day by Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) employees tand councillors on Friday, shortage of pupil's desks were reduced by at least 140.
There was little digging in the administrative purse since funds were only used to purchase the desk tops, paints and bolts and nuts to refurbish the desk while the labour was free.
The work included removing rust from old frames, mounting of tops to the frames and painting.
In an interview, principal education secretary, Ms Susan Sekgwa stated that though they planned to refurbish 480 desks, they were able to refurbish only 140 desks.
Ms Sekgwa said they used P29 160.88 to refurbish the 140 desks. She stated that the cost to buy new single desk was around P390 thus said they made great savings through the initiative.
She said they would continue with initiative each month until they accomplish their target. SAA public relations officer, Ms Joyce Lekgathanye, who acknowledged shortage of furniture in primary schools.
Ms Lekgathanye said it was a cost saving initiative as the old desk frames that were to be disposed were refurbished. ENDS
