Acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele, has implored employees under his ministry to include wellness activities in their daily programmes.
Speaking at the ministry’s wellness day in Gaborone, Friday, Mr Makgalemele said the ministry organised the wellness day to reflect on how best employees could work better because a productive workforce was inevitably a healthy workforce.
As such, he said government and the ministry had embraced a holistic approach by providing for employee risk management, occupational health, safety and productivity in the world of work.
“This holistic approach to employee health and wellness further recognises the importance of linking individual health, safety and wellness, organisational wellness, environmental sustainability, quality management to productivity and improved service delivery,” he said.
Mr Makgalemele further said effects of non-communicable diseases were a growing burden and thus it was necessary to adopt counter measures aimed at controlling side effects.
Secretary for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Ms Kebonye Moepeng emphasised the importance of balancing work and health.
She also encouraged employees to take advantage of the health screening expertise available and where appropriate take recommended therapies or medication. ENDS
