Deputy district commissioner for Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA),  Segomotso Nkwane has informed district sub council preparations for this year 50th anniversary are well underway.

Nkwane said during sub council briefing on Wednesday that preparations in all villages that fall under KAA are at an advanced stage and that committees have been set up to ensure this years’ festivities are a success.

“We have established committees in all the villages in question and beefed them up with officers who liaise with such committees at village level to ensure that everybody is taken on board,” she said.

Nkwane informed the House that the exercise to mark 50 days before September 30 was smooth expect for Gasita village; something she promised will be corrected going forward.

She reported other activities among them; the mounting of Zebra stature at Kanye roundabout, branding of Kanye village with national colours, spot announcements on both Radio Botswana and DailyNews have since been carried-out.

Furthermore, she informed the House that a Facebook page by the name ‘Ngwaketse at 50’ to intensify BOT50 hype and vibe has also been opened.

“Plans are also underway to raise flags at designated areas such as towers near Seventh Day Adventist hospital, street lights from Mongala mall to the main kgotla all the way to Mahube and back to Mongala,” she said.

She noted Kanye Administrative Authority lineup of other activities include; church service at Montshioa grounds, Bicycle race, Boipuso Gospel concert at Seepapitso senior secondary school.

Councilors appreciated all the hard work KAA has put in place towards BOT50.

Some however were not pleased the authority could not breakdown the exact allocation of funds per village; something Nkwane promised to provide before the end of the council session.

Councilors, especially those whose wards fall within Kanye village also expressed displeasure at the decision to only serve food at the main kgotla on September 30.

They argued a better option would have been to disburse funds so that residents could drink and dine at their respective wards.ENDS
