Anne Stine receives donation

25 Aug 2016

Government through health and education ministries and people with disability office is committed to ensuring that people living with disability do not fail to get education because of their condition, Ms Gaboelwe Rammekwa  who is chief health officer has said.

Speaking during  a donation of 27 prima-wheel chairs to children with disability at Anne Stine Centre for Disabled in Molepolole, she  said the health and education ministries and all stakeholders played a unique and important role in ensuring that people with disability enjoyed government assistance and empowerment programmes offered to all citizens.

She said though the donation was not adequate, it would however go a long way in assisting the beneficiaries  and their guardians in aiding thechildren’s mobility and learning.

Coordinator for Anne Stine Mr Pedro Ramosanta implored guardians to care for the wheelchairs and ensure they were used for intended purposes for aiding in mobility of the children and learning.

Mr Ramosanta said currently the school because of resource constraints was not able to assist all deserving people in the district and was forced as such to focus only on young ones and not older people as it should be.

According to Mr Ramosanta, the centre which was established in 1992 to help children with disability by providing counseling, physiotherapy and day care support of the young has 39 full time day care children and 39 others assisted from their homes.

Other 17 specialised wheel chairs will be distributed to beneficiaries in Kweneng west such as in Ditshegwane, Sesung, Sojwe, Boatlaname Kaudwane, Takatokwane and other deserving childrens under Kweneng west District Health Management team.

For her part, a guardian to one of the beneficiaries Ms Boikgopolo Mokgadinyana said the donation and support by government had given hope to children and guardians, and they no longer hid people with disability because Anne Stine centre now was providing for them. Ends
