Devotion to farming vital

Farmers in Mmathethe have been encouraged to show commitment to their farming undertakings.
Kgosi Daniel Mathiba of Mmathethe expressed gratitude and praised the government for empowering Batswana through agricultural programmes which he said helped in the fight against poverty.
Kgosi Mathiba said this in a kgotla meeting in Mmathethe on August 24.
He expressed concern that although the government had empowered young people by giving them some livestock through LIMID, it was disappointing to see that a lot of the beneficiaries resisted self-reliance by not looking after their livestock.
Kgosi Mathiba said these neglected livestock which ended up destroying the fields of other farmers, who also were benefiting from other government programme caused a rift between the two.
He further explained that neglected livestock did not only crops as they encouraged cattle rustling as well.
Kgosi Mathiba said stray cattle were a big problem for them adding that the local council must join hands with them to see how they could bring to an end the menace.
He also said government empowerment programmes for farmers should benefit every individual farmer, adding that government should provide grazing ranches before empowering Batswana through LIMID. Ends
