In celebration of the Botswana Golden Jubilee as well as marking the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Botswana and Japan, the Embassy of Japan, made sure that their presence is felt at the just opened, Botswana Consumer Fair 2016, introducing “Origami”, which is the art of folding paper.
According to the second secretary y of Japanese Embassy, Yoshihiro Uemura, paper folding is a good pastime and a group activity which has many benefits for the children, socially and for their developing mind.
“This is the art of folding paper, which is mostly associated with the Japanese culture.
The goal is to transform a flat sheet square of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper,” he said.
Uemura said they have prepared two types of workshops for public benefit.
“The first three days we shall provide consultation for those interested in studying in Japan, and the last four days, we shall provide the art of calligraphy and lessons on Japanese language, where participants are to learn easy Japanese composition,” he said.
Uemura further said that some of the information which they hope to impart include African Basic Education, which is sponsored by the Tokyo International Conference on African development which is to be held this month. Ends
