The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya has applauded Kweneng West teachers for provision of a two bedroomed house to Ms Mpho Kemolebetse’s family.
Speaking at the house hand over in Serinane on August 22, Mr Goya said the gesture by the teachers was indicative of the nature of Batswana, who are known for their love and willingness to assist the less privileged members of the society.
“Shelter is one of the necessities of life and it is a human right, but because of poverty some members of the society are deprived of this right, and I would therefore like to applaud the teachers for ensuring that the dignity of this family is restored,” he said.
Mr Goya said by virtue of working in Kweneng region, the teachers are part of that society, and therefore like any other responsible society, they did well to look back at the less privileged members and assist them.
He said such a gesture was also in line with the objectives of government to eliminate poverty as no level of poverty is tolerable. “We are also hopeful that such a spirit of lending a helping hand will rub on all Batswana, and we should commend any little effort by donors to assist the underprivileged,” he said.
To the Kemolebetse children, Mr Goya said he was hopeful that such a spirit of compassion as extended to them would rub on them so that they will in future know the importance of assisting others.
“This project is not only a welcome development for the family, but it will also help in building a good image of this sub region, to some extent the whole of Kweneng region and indeed the whole ministry,” he said.
For his part, the chief education officer for Letlhakeng Sub region, Mr Ndineni Mbuso said the beneficiaries were identified with the assistance of the Department of Social and Community Development, and applauded all the teachers and companies that contributed towards the realisation of the project for their efforts.
The beneficiary, Ms Kemolebetse promised that together with her four children, they will take care of the house as it means a great deal to them, the words that were reiterated by area councillor, Mr Meshack Tshenyego who indicated that the family is known for its cleanliness and that he is confident that they will keep their word.
