The chairperson of the Mabutsane Sub-district council Mr Kgopolo Ramosesane has noted that over P4 million has been allocated towards the construction of Rural Area Development Programme (RADP) and destitute houses in his sub-district.
Addressing the sub-council meeting on August 22, Mr Ramosesane revealed that contracts for the outsourced works have already been signed, while preparatory activities for the commencement of the projects were ongoing.
He said that though they continued to experience backlog in the construction of RADS houses, they remained optimistic that more projects will be catered for these financial year.
“The government continues to help the less privileged by providing shelter in our sub-district. It is against this backdrop that these financial year 2016/2017 we have been funded with P4 498 000 to construct a total of 46 houses, that is 24 RADP, four drought induced and 18 for destitute persons.
He urged the Architecture and Buildings Department personnel to ensure that these houses were completed on time to accord the beneficiaries decent and dignified accommodation.
Furthermore, Mr Ramosesane said they were working towards eradicating backlog in poverty eradication projects, some of which were partially funded. He said the plan was to have fully packaged all the poverty eradication projects by the end of this month.
“Of recent, we have managed to fully package 19 projects and 29 have been partially funded giving a total of 54 beneficiaries. Out of the disbursed P645 000, P635 871.25 have been spent which translates to 99 per cent which is commendable. All the materials were delivered to beneficiaries after the procurement exercise,” he said.
He further noted that from the sub-council’s P1 million budget, the Social and Community Development (S and CD) has been allocated a larger chunk of over P250 000 towards implementing this programme. He said the funds will be used for training two tent hire beneficiaries in Kanaku and Sekoma, a bakery project in Mahotshwane as well as three jam making projects in Mabutsane.
Additionally, he noted that the money will be used to complete funding for existing projects which include bakery in Kanaku and a sewing project in Mabutsane. He urged the implementing officers to ensure that these projects were funded on time so that they could sustain themselves.
For his part, the Mabutsane Sub-district council Social and Comunity Development committee chairperson Mr Sabata Dikgokgwane said he was happy that his department got a larger share of the budget because they were faced with a lot of challenges. Ends
