Council addresses housing challenge

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has allocated  P2.4 million  for the construction of  33 housing units for RADP and destitute. 

Speaking during   the Bobirwa Sub Council third session August 22, council chairperson Mr Nathaniel  Moribame told the council that such houses would be constructed in four villages of Lepokole, Tshokwe, Robelela and Damochujenaa. 

Mr Moribame said such houses come in different packages and of that number six of such houses would be two-roomed houses at the cost of P50 000 per unit, 11 are two bed-roomed  which cost P100 000 per unit while 12 were allocated as destitute housing at a cost also of P50 000.

He said from the 33 such houses under implementation, 15 were 100 per cent complete and 18 houses nearing completion at between 80-99 per cent progress levels.

Mr Moribame also councillor for Molalatau said the anticipation was that by the end of the month all houses would be completed.

In addition to housing, the councillor stated that the sub district has been allocated P250 000 for construction of five disaster houses a project which started last month and expected to be complete by end of September this year. 

The project comprises three houses in Mathathane while the remaining two were being constructed in Bobonong.

Another scheme that offers people housing the Self Help Housing Assistance is said to have benefited 14 beneficiaries under the house improvement programme with the sub district with a ceiling of P630 000. 

The chairperson said under the top-up programme, the scheme has assisted seven beneficiaries with over P172 000 spent on materials and labour against an allocation of P175 000. 

Concerning roads in the sub district Mr Moribame stated that Bobonong Infrastructure Development has been completed at a total cost of P229 million and the assessment of affected properties was still outstanding and a works programme has been drawn.

He said the Martin’s Drift-Sefhope asphalt overlay project which started  last year May was complete and handed over to the client.   Ends
