Dow pays homage to teachers

The Minister of Education and Skills Development Dr Unity Dow has hailed educators for their role in developing children.

 Dr Dow who was officially opening the annual conference of Botswana Sector of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) in Francistown recently said nowadays teachers worked in a more challenging environment than before.

She noted that they dealt with students from different backgrounds as well as having to deal with shortage of classrooms.

Dr Dow encouraged teachers to turn their challenges into opportunities by working as a team to improve academic performance by the students.

She also urged parents to play an active role in their children’s education and applauded teachers for being there for students who had social problems.

Another speaker at the conference, Education International (EI) executive board vice president for Africa region Mr John Maluleka said educators were not celebrated enough even though they were multitasked in their profession.

He added that the curriculum in the schools needed to be improved to offer higher quality education .

The conference was held under the theme, More time for every student: Changing the future of each learner. Ends
