Rollers withdraw CAS case
18 Aug 2016
Township Rollers has withdrawn its case from the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in which the club was appealing the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) verdict that its midfielder Ofentse Nato was a defaulter.
According to a statement released by Botswana Football Association (BFA) on Thursday (August 18), the club took a decision to withdraw the case after meeting with new BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti this week.
The statement indicates that the withdrawal was premised on the fact that Rollers has been crowned as 2015/16 beMOBILE Premiership League champions after beating Mochudi Centre Chiefs 5-1 in a playoff last week.
Furthermore, the statement says the withdrawal was based on the undertaking by BFA that it will engage FIFA to establish the status of the player at the time he was declared a defaulter by NDC.
“The withdrawal of the case from CAS should not be construed in any way to mean a concession on the part of Township Rollers that Nato was indeed a defaulter at the time he was declared such, hence the need for the establishment of a true situation from FIFA.
The meeting of Rollers by the new BFA president is part of his efforts to restore peace and stability to Botswana football that has been experiencing unprecedented turbulence in the recent past,” BFA chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng says through the statement.
He says the BFA thanks Rollers for the development and trusts that the conclusion of the 2015/16 season shall be brought to a close once and for all. ENDS
