Molepolole councillors decry dark nights
17 Aug 2016
Councillors in Molepolole Administrative Authority/Lentsweletau (MAA) have decried lack of street lights, claiming this remains as source of crime in many areas of the wards they represent.
Councillors said some of the street lights have since been mounted but have remained idle or not operating for long time now with no explanation given. The councillors said these when responding to MAA sub-council chairperson’s speech.
Councillor for Borakalalo Mr Arafat Khan said in his area residents complain of thugs who snatch their belongings by the bus stops in the evening under cover of dark.
Councillor for Boribamo East, Mr Allan Jacobs pleaded for the completion of street light installation along Lephepe road to help curb criminal activities at the bus stops along the road.
However, councillor for Ntloolengwae, Mr Solomon Ramalejana suggested that if connecting of street lights to all areas was impossible, council should consider installing tower lights around council wards not connected with street lights which could greatly help reduce crime cases.
Councillor Khan said he was glad the newly opened Molepolole bus terminus was operational, but questioned when the project will be handed over to MAA/Lentsweletau sub council.
Mr Khan said since a security company has been deployed at the bus terminus, a cleaning company must be engaged as well to make sure the place stays clean.
He also complained about the poor drainage system at the terminus which he said during rains, residents in the bus terminus neighborhood were affected as the water floods their yards.
Khan noted that it has been a while since authorities promised to attend the situation.
He also pleaded that speed humps be mounted on Borakalalo roads given the high speed by motorists who use that road thereby posing danger to residents especially children.
Still on the bus terminus issue, cllr Jacobs said if the council continued to delay leasing out of stalls, mushrooming of illegal business operations will continue to rise. It was noted in the council chairperson Mr Botokanyana Motoroko`s speech that mushrooming of illegal business operations was affecting the image of Molepolole. ENDS
