Botswana's 50th anniversary celebrations call on the nation to reflect on progress made in addressing issues that affect Batswana.
The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, said this during a kgotla meeting in Manyana on Tuesday (August 16).
He said working in harmony with leaders would strengthen the country's economy and sustain peace.
The Vice President, also Moshupa-Manyana MP, commended Batswana for the unity and cooperation since independence.
He commended Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for uplifting communities and supporting efforts to fight poverty.
Mr Masisi said Botswana was one of the countries where peace and tranquillity prevailed because it appreciated cultural differences and unity.
He said the independence celebrations were a milestone since they would form part of history of their villages as well as that of the country.
Therefore, the Vice President urged Batswana to be proud of themselves, culture and leadership.
Mr Masisi noted that before independence and after, the country was poor and he applauded the visionary leadership for introducing assistance programmes.
Mr Masisi also addressed village development committees and village extension teams from Mogonye, Bikwe and Manyana where he applauded them for work well done.
He encouraged them to strive for excellence when serving the public. ENDS
