Francistown entrepreneur, Ms Daisy Kalanke has established Lent Amusement Park and Lent Chair Spa, a dual recreational space offering families in the city a place to unwind. 

The facility is established to address children’s need for safe play while adults can relax and rejuvenate at Lent Chair Spa. 

The Managing Director, Ms Daisy Kalanke said the park, located at Area W next to the public clinic and Ridge View Private Primary School offers jumping castles, trampoline, tree house, swimming facilities, beach volleyball, beach football, swings, sandpit, snooker and electric bikes. 

Adjacent to the park is Lent Chair Spa, which offers massage chairs and machines. 

The spa also provides babysitting and grooming services. 

The team also attends marathons and other wellness events to offer massage chair services to participants.

“The park also operates as an outdoor venue for parties, weddings, graduations and family fun days,” she said, noting that she was using her background in counselling to provide affordable recreation and wellness services to families across the city. 

Ms Kalanke, is a counsellor, preschool teacher and community youth worker from Borolong. 

“I realised that many people suffer from stress-related illnesses but cannot afford physiotherapy at market rates. 

At the same time, children need safe recreational spaces and I decided to create a place where both needs are met,” she said.

 She said the spa kept the business going in difficult times, but ironically outside the park through outsourcing and during community events.

The business currently employs three people, a manager, a gardener and a night-watchman, and serves an average of 200 clients per month. 

However, Ms Kalanke said the business faced challenges of operational space. 

“Our biggest challenge is land. 

We operate under a short lease which also requires more renovations,” she said. 

Despite the challenges, she said the business had taught her resilience. 

“The financial lesson we learned is that money, like the kingdom of God, suffers violence and the violent take it by force. 

You have to go out and fight for it than sit and wait for it in the office. 

The business has also forced me out of my cocoon, to stand and speak for myself,” she said.

Her proudest wins so far include seeing parents leave the spa smiling while their children are tired and happy from playing. 

Her other win is having employed Batswana and having trained them to be part of the business and building the brand in Francistown.

 Looking ahead, Ms Kalanke said her dream is to see Amusement Park and Lent Chair Spa as the place to be in Francistown. 

She also plans to introduce physiotherapy services and expand to Palapye in 2027. 

“I want to see myself owning land or a long-term lease for recreation. My vision is to have a Lent in every major village so that no Motswana has to choose between their child’s fun and their own health. 

This is my contribution to a healthy nation in line with Vision 2036,” she said. ENDS
