The chairperson for Letlhakeng Sub- district, Cllr Tlotlo Batlhophi has commended government for its effort in ensuring that Batswana own property.
Speaking during the opening of the Letlhakeng Sub–Council Forum on August 15, Cllr Batlhophi said this in the wake of government's decision to extend turnkey and home improvement programmes under the Self Help Housing Scheme to officers on D4 scale and below.
He therefore urged councilors to spread the message and urge those who qualify to utilise the scheme. He further revealed that local authorities have been instructed to commence the said loans to the beneficiaries effective the beginning of this month, and that guidelines for these two schemes have already been availed to different councils.
Cllr Batlhophi also informed the councilors that as the Letlhakeng infrastructure project will be coming to completion at the end of this year, the process of naming the streets has already taken off with community consultations having been carried out through a kgotla meeting and proposed names already submitted to relevant offices.
Concerning Mahupu Unified Secondary School, another notable project in the sub-district, Cllr Batlhophi said that the infrastructure for phase one of the project is complete and already in use while the second and last phase is to be completed in November this year.
He also said that the long standing challenge of shortage of water at the school is expected to be solved as Water Utilities Corporation has drilled an additional borehole which is awaiting Botswana Power Corperation to connect to power.
He said recruitment for eight vacant senior teacher posts at the school is on-going after all Diploma holders who were senior teachers were transferred.
Concerning other schools, he said all previously vacant deputy school head's posts have been filled save for Sorilatholo and Maboane primary schools for which recruitment is ongoing. ENDS
