MP implores farmers to work as unit

Farmers at Matsitama in Shashe West constituency have been implored to do away with the spirit of individualism and adopt the will to work in groups or clusters.
Speaking when the Ministry of Agriculture in the Central District took services to the people of Matsitama on August 16, Shashe West MP, Mr Fidelis Molao, said working as individuals was not capable of producing enough food, which could help Botswana attain food security.
Mr Molao, also Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, further noted that government had been putting in place different initiatives aimed at helping Batswana in general and farmers to work in clusters.
This, he said, was because working in such groups was going to assist them to share methods adopted today as a result of climate change to produce yields that will not only make them survive but the nation at large.
Furthermore, Mr Molao pointed out that in the field of farming, it should not be about competition because on daily basis people needed food and that meant the market could never be saturated which can make them as farmers to prefer working alone instead of collaborating with other to produce more to cater for the local market and even consider exporting.
“We have to move away from operating as individuals but work as unit, groups, production clusters and as associations for a common goal of food production,” he said.
He therefore challenged and encouraged farmers to appropriately make use of programmes such as ISPAAD and LIMID. ENDS
