BFA grooms young girls
16 Aug 2016
Botswana Football Association (BFA) under the auspices of Federation International de Football Association (FIFA) has conducted a grassroots festival for girls at Mahudiri Primary School.
In an interview on the sidelines of the festival recently, BFA senior technical officer, Tshepo Mphukuti said they aimed to promote girls aged six to 12 years and give them an opportunity to play football with their male counterparts.
The festival, he said would help nurture the children at grassroots level and develop their talents so that they could play for the country.
Mphukuti said this would also change the children’s behaviour after realising that they had talent.
He encourged the girls to stay on top of their game and spend time practising every day so as to perfect their skills and learn team work as well as keeping a healthy lifestyle.
He advised them that athletes on the field or people working in sports are very competitive and therefore they should be ready for a challenge and do what it takes to move ahead.
Mphukuti said the festival encouraged them to love sports, adding that their target was to cover 752 primary schools in Botswana by the year 2018.
He said grooming children at a young age would benefit that they could be ble to play in the premier league while still young. ENDS
