Ministry plans discussion on sexual abuse of children

Ministry of Education and Skills Development in conjunction with #IShallNotForget Movement will host a high level panel discussion on August 22.
A press release from the ministry says the objective of the panel discussion is to have “constructive conversation” with relevant authorities and organisations on sexual abuse of children, with the intension to strengthen legislation and also to strengthen existing structures that deal with the issues.
It says serveral experts from various disciples will sit as panelists under the topic 'the safe Botswana we want to create for our children'. The discussion will bring on board different panelists such as Minister of Local Government who will discuss legislature and plan of action that aims at addressing issues of child abuse.
The release notes that other panelist will be a psychologist, who will point out what sexual abuse is, its effects on children and how to address them from psycho-social point of view.
The panel will also incude a researcher and a practicing lawyer. the former will talk to how wide spread the problem is and its impact on the family structure as well the economy while the latter will address domestic laws that adress the vice. ENDS
