Absenteeism worries school head

15 Aug 2016

Khweeoseo Primary School head, Ms Keabonye Maoto has expressed frustration about the high number of absenteeism from school.

She informed the North West District Council chairman, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa and his entourage in a meeting that in a week, about 50 pupils from different classes absconded from school without any valid reason.

She said the school could not produce good results because parents were not actively involved in their children’s studies. Ms Maoto said they had realised that some pupils absconded from school to stay in nearby ranches.

She also decried lack of cooperation by some parents to attend Parents Teacher Association (PTA) meetings.

Ms Maoto advised parents to change their attitudes and collaborate with teachers and PTA members to discipline pupils.

For his part, tMr Mbulawa expressed concern about some parents who failed to play their part in their children’s education.

He reminded parents that it was their responsibility to ensure their children were moulded into responsible citizens.

He also informed them that education was a fundamental international human right and that every child had a right to education hence they should play a leading role. ENDS
