15 Aug 2016

Women give extra attention to women because traditionally, there is a way in which they are disadvantaged says Attorney General, Dr Athalia Molokomme.
Speaking during  the community service day and donations for women inmates at Gaborone women's prison, Dr Molokomme said that did not mean that women prisoners were more disadvantaged than their male counterparts, but there were certain differences in power relations based on tradition.
She said community service was the President's initiative and the Attorney Generals Chambers took a number of initiatives to render their helping hand.
Dr Molokomme women or girl child could be rehabilitated and learn from their mistakes, adding that self-improvement was  paramount to all women.
She said women had full equality before the law and they were ambassadors of the nation and had a role to play as Botswana turns 50 years.
The donation, she said, came from the contributions made by officers through their love and gesture.
“Life is the most difficult exam, many people will fail because they try to copy others not realizing that everyone has a different question paper,” she said
Deputy divisional commander south in prisons, Assistant Commissioner Ruben Motshebe said inmates needed love from the parents and community when leaving prison.
He said prisoners needed continuous visits by leaders and elders in the community and give them word of advice and counselling. ENDS
