HIVAIDS war far from over

Botswana Railways (BR) subsidiary manager, Mr Semabale Tladi, has urged stakeholders to join hands in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Speaking during the Candlelight Memorial organised by BR and District Multi-Sectoral AIDS Committee (DMSAC) in Palapye on August 12, Mr Tladi said all should strive to achieve the goal of an HIV free generation, adding that if all stakeholders show solidarity in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic, stigma and discrimination would be eliminated.
Furthermore, Mr Tladi said BR had forged ahead by making collaborations with other organisations to bring solution towards achieving zero infection, adding that all BR staff are encouraged to take part in lighting the path for themselves and others.
He said they did so by encouraging BR staff to take part in HIV/AIDS activities and educating staff about HIV/AIDS and the psychological effects it has on the individual living with the virus.
In addition he said BR empowers those infected with HIV to live a healthy lifestyle through educational campaigns.
For his part Kgosi Masego Olebile of Palapye thanked BR for sponsoring the event, saying that it shows that the company is part of the community.
He said Palapye developed because of the railway line that crosses through Palapye, adding that the railway line has a rich history.
On other issues, he said train accidents are worrisome as three people lost their lives in train accidents this year.
He said BR and Road Safety committee should work closely to educate motorists about safety at level crossings.
Meanwhile, Ms Kgalalelo Ntsepe who went public with her HIV status urged residents to prevent HIV infection, adding that the war is still far from over.
She said it is very important for someone to know his/her HIV status t so that they do not infect others with the virus.
She also commended the government for the Test and Treat initiative saying that it will help save lives and improve the health of those infected with the virus. ENDS
