Centre requires maintenance

Matsha Lifelong Learning Centre in Kang requires mechanical and electrical maintenance of P640 000, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya has revealed. Mr Goya stated in Parliament on Tuesday (August 9) that when the centre was assessed for maintenance by the Department of Engineering Services, it was ascertained that the facility did not need any major structural maintenance. The assistant minister further refuted allegations that Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) had not renewed the centre’s accreditation. “The centre has accreditation with Botswana Qualifications Authority valid until January 31, 2019,” Mr Goya said in response to a question from Kgalagadi North MP Mr Itumeleng Moipisi. The MP had asked if the assistant minister was aware of the status of the centre in terms of lack of maintenance of physical structure, non-renewal of accreditation certificate, shortage of staff and lack of financial resources. Mr Goya said he was aware of the shortage of training and support staff at the centre, stating that there is a vacancy for one full time senior adult education officer at the centre. “The centre is operating with only one full-time trainer. The centre out-sources training services due to the non-formal nature of Adult Education and the lack of available full-time posts. My ministry will endeavor to ease operations at the centre with additional full-time staff when posts become vacant elsewhere and can be migrated to the centre,” Mr Goya said. ENDS
