Water shortage affects projects
14 Aug 2016
Shortage of water and electricity is affecting the success of some poverty eradication projects in Ditladi in the North East District.
Ms Margaret Mondiya who was enrolled in the programme as a back yard beneficiary in the 2011/12 financial year, told the Presidential inspectorate task team that she was given all the necessary equipment to start but the project was failing to take off due lack water.
She said no progress has been made yet even though she had suggested to the programme implementors that she be considered for small stock instead to better her life.
Another beneficiary, Ms Gadifele Johanese told the team that she was still waiting for water connections to be done.
She explained that even the net shade that was built over the garden had collapsed dashing hopes of the project ever kicking off.
A youth who benefited through the Youth Development Fund (YDF), Ms Tshimologo Robby was funded for beef production. She brought to the attention of the team that at the beginning of the year, she applied for a space for a water tank but the Tati Land board had not responded to the application. She said as a result she was forced to move the cattle to her parents’ kraal.
In response the district agricultural coordinator, Mr Nkaigwa Joel said some backyard garden beneficiaries had a problem of water because they were outside the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) reticulation network.
Mr Joel said such beneficiaries were advised to choose a different package and the backyard garden materials would be taken back. ENDS
