Chiefs Rollers square off again
09 Aug 2016
Botswana Premier League (BPL) disciplinary committee has dismissed a case in which Mochudi Centre Chiefs were charged for bringing the game of football into disrepute.
Therefore, the disciplinary committee (DC) ordered BPL to schedule a play-off between Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs to determine the 2015/2016 beMobile Premiership champions within 10 days.
BPL prosecution had accused Centre Chiefs of fielding seven players during the tittle decider against Rollers in Francistown recently.
Centre Chiefs representative, Lore Morapedi said some of their players were injured, while others were out of contract.
He said Chiefs did their best to secure a number of players to honour the fixture and they had never refused to play the game, adding that by the time the play-off was played, the season had ended until a directive came from the BFA that they had to play the league decider.
Morapedi said Chiefs made a reasonable request but were not listened to, adding that BFA continued to fixture the game on July 23, despite, Chiefs alerting them about their challenges.
However, BPL prosecutor Mike Rasetshwane, said it was duty of a team to register at least 25 players.
Centre Chiefs communications manager, Clifford Mogomotsi, said they were happy with the judgement, adding that they had never refused to play but they had challenges, which they communicated.
He, however, said their injured players were now recovering, and they would have a formidable side when they play Rollers. Ends
