Khama to launch countdown

To heighten awareness towards the country’s 50th independence anniversary, President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama will this Thursday launch the 50 days countdown to Independence Day.
Speaking in an interview, the Botswana 50th Anniversary of Independence (BOT50) coordinator, Ms Charity Kgotlafela stated that the event is scheduled to be staged at the University of Botswana (UB) Stadium. She urged the public to attend in large numbers.
She said the President will mark the 50 days to the 50 years of Botswana Anniversary of Independence celebration which has been themed #50 to 50.
She mentioned that the proceedings of the day will start with a march parade from different locations in Gaborone at 6am and converge at the UB stadium to kick start the official programme. She stated that the convergence plan marches will start at Airport Junction, Main Mall, Game City, and Fairgrounds Mall as well as from the Three Dikgosi monument to converge at the Notwane Grounds where the parade will proceed to UB stadium for 930am.
Meanwhile, Ms Kgotlafela also requested Batswana to be part of the day, and to also put on national colours. She added that the Blue, White and Black parade is expected for the day.
She said the day will be entertained by Mascot, roadshow truck, Prisons band, BDF Band, contemporary music artistes and others.
Ms Kgotlafela further said there will be promotional merchandise during the day that includes 50 Days Branded t-shirts, BOT50 caps, hand bands, standard flags, domes and gazebos, marching, outdoor and Flap banners, adding that there will also be exhibition by different stakeholders. Ends
